WRITING IS A LIGHTNING STRIKE (Workshop)

So much writing advice encourages diligently "showing up to the page," highly editing the work, and throwing away writing that isn't "perfect." This relationship to writing is alien to me. Writing, for me, is something visceral, immediate, chaotic, necessary, inherently political, and lifesaving. The majority of my writing practice does not happen "at the page." I barely edit my work and I never throw anything away. Yet I am a successful writer who lives off my work and has an audience. More importantly, I am connected to the spiritual force that is writing.

In this workshop, I share my philosophy of writing, one that is grounded in survivor experience, punk aesthetics and ethics, and spiritual practice. I teach the cultivation of audacity as a practice of radical humility, the development of your own philosophy of writing, and the creation of a writing practice that is not only about "showing up to the page." I teach about underground writing, self-publishing, and writing like your life depends on it. Maybe it does.

This is not your typical writing workshop. For crazy people, survivors, outsiders, and those who hear the call, WRITING IS A LIGHTNING STRIKE teaches you how to receive your own writing and put it into the world.
